Firefighters Teach Students Important Safety Lessons

On Tuesday, some students at Hamilton Elementary got out of class for a special visit. Fire inspector Robert Erickson and fellow firefighters from the Coon Rapids Fire Department, hosted a fire prevention week program for kindergarten through second graders in the school gym. This year's theme: ‘Cooking Safety Starts With You, Pay Attention To Fire Prevention.’

"We're just making sure that the little kids stay out of the kitchen,” fire inspector, Nick House said. “You can be big helpers with the first graders and second graders, but just know that when something is on the stove we want to make sure that they stay away from it."

The students also got to high-five a firefighter in full gear, as he crawled low, just like in a home fire scenario. They also practiced escape plans, and how to get out of the house safely. Some key lessons learned, during fire prevention week.
