Harold Nelson, of Ramsey, has always been a numbers guy. He worked for years as an accountant. Now, at age 100, his friends at the Coon Rapids Senior Center held a balloon parade to mark his decades of digits.
Harold was recognized for his military service, way back in World War II. The Quilt of Valor organization presented him with a handmade quilt.
Mayor Jerry Koch read a proclamation from the city of Coon Rapids which proclaimed August 16, 2022, Harold Nelson Day.
"And my sincere happy birthday and thank you for your service," Koch said.
Perhaps the best gift of all for Harold was to play cards with members of the Coon Rapids Senior Center bridge club. It's a game he's still willing to get behind the wheel of his car and drive to on Tuesdays.
"You have a lot of people that you meet and different personalities,” Nelson said.
After all these years Harold, is still a numbers guy.
"Kind of a life saver because it keeps an old man going,” Nelson said. “Something to look forward to every week."
