Summer Community Ed Classes for Kids

Youth programs are back for summer thanks to Anoka-Hennepin Community Education and the return to in-person learning from the easing of restrictions due to the pandemic.

"We are ready and excited to welcome people back to summer," said Kristin Keller, the supervisor of Community Schools with Anoka-Hennepin Community Education.

Registration is open for Anoka-Hennepin Schools summer programs. Classes are filling up fast. Many of the activities will take place at the Northdale Middle School.

"In the building we're going to have 'Anastasia' the musical performed,” said Keller. “We are going to have a series of sports camps, featuring Olympic themes. We are going to have robotics."

Due to their ongoing partnership with the city of Coon Rapids, District 11 will use the Riverwind Community Center building, for programs, both indoors and out.

"There is a new pickle ball court. There is a children's playground, there is also a basketball court and it's connected nicely to a walking path," Keller said.

A complete list of camps, classes and activities are on the school district’s website, for students to choose from.

"So some classes are one day opportunities, other classes are week long and some run the entire summer."

Community Education offers students a number of swimming programs, for a wide range of ages and abilities. All of the aquatics programming will take place at the Roosevelt Middle School community pool in Blaine.

Keller said the summer programs are flexible. "Families can stack different opportunities and work in community ed classes around their vacation."

Summer programs start in June. For registration information, call 763-506-1260 or visit www.discovercommunityed.com.
