An organization in Anoka County that helps families experiencing homelessness is marking its 10th anniversary this year.
Family Promise in Anoka County started back in 2010 with Faith Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids hosting homeless families. Today, a network of 20 congregations is involved. Families rotate to a different church each week and can stay in the program up to 90 days with the goal of achieving housing independence.
"We wanted to have a big celebration for the 10 year anniversary of the organization, all of the people who have been involved since the beginning, almost 120,000 hours of volunteer labor during that time has been posted in our records," according to David Frei, Executive Director. "We also have our big fundraiser every year that had to be cancelled this fall, it's our hot dish for homelessness, we weren't able to do that so we are trying to bring the two things together."
"Fulfilling the Promise: A Virtual Fundraiser Celebrating 10 Years of Serving Families" will take place Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. For details, click here. There will be prizes. They hope to raise $25,000.
