A group of office workers in Coon Rapids who call themselves Team APG claimed a one million dollar lottery prize this week. The co-workers hit it big in last weekend’s Powerball drawing.
"It’s unbelievable," exclaimed Dustin Uran. “I could not believe it when I checked the tickets, but it feels really good.”
Dustin Uran got to keep the million dollar check which he and his co-workers picked up at Minnesota State Lottery headquarters in Roseville. For the past seven years, Dustin, who works as a graphics designer for Adams Publishing Group, has been the point man for his office lottery pool.
“We usually start the pool if it gets above 300 million, that’s when we start trying for it,” said Uran.
The million dollar winner was purchased at the Speedway off of Round Lake Boulevard, just a few blocks from Dustin’s office in Coon Rapids.
“We do quick picks, it’s just a lot quicker to just go in and hand the clerk the money and say we need 56 tickets, or whatever.”
The winning ticket matched the first five Powerball numbers. Split between the twenty-eight co-workers in the office pool, one million dollars comes out to just under $36,000 before taxes.
“It’s kind of exciting,” said billing lead Darlene MacPherson.
"You think it’s going to be a lot, it’s not quite as much money, but it’s still enough to do whatever people want to do with it,” MacPherson said.
She said she dreams of traveling to England together with her boyfriend and watching Manchester United play soccer.
Dustin said he plans to pay some bills and take his young family of four on a trip of a lifetime.
“We actually had a trip, already a trip planned to Costa Rica, so now we’re going to be able to pay that off,” laughed Uran.
As you might imagine, the lottery office pool has gotten wider for lucky Team APG.
MacPherson speaks for many of her co-workers, “Every time he says, oh the jackpots up there who wants to go in?” I don’t miss, because you never know. I keep telling people, somebody’s got to win it.”
Whether it’s Mega Millions or the Powerball, the group plans to continue playing the big lottery jackpots. Dustin says winning once is proof that they can do it again.
