The end is in sight for drivers who are waiting for Hanson Boulevard to reopen, but more construction is on deck. This week, the City Council approved a joint powers agreement with Anoka County for the next round of road construction along the busy roadway.
Next year construction will occur along a one mile stretch of Hanson between Northdale Boulevard and Main Street. The focus of the project is safety. Plans include widening the road to accommodate raised medians and adding turn lanes in both directions. Work will begin in April 2020 and is expected to last through the fall, although no full road closures are planned during the project. The total price tag is approximately $4.5 million, to be shared between Anoka County, the City of Coon Rapids and the federal government.
Meanwhile, the current closure of Hanson at the railroad tracks north of Coon Rapids Boulevard will extend into November. Wet weather has delayed the project, which is now expected to wrap up by the third week of November.
