Anoka County is planning to hire more than a half dozen more 911 operators next year to help deal with an increasing number of calls.
On Tuesday, the Anoka County Board adopted the preliminary property tax levy for 2020. The levy will increase nearly five percent which is similar to the increase for this year.
Budget priorities for next year include public safety, cyber security and preserving and maintaining the current level of county services.
Eight more 911 dispatchers will be hired to help deal with the more than 300,000 calls received each year.
The tax levy pays for about a third of the county's operational costs. The rest of the budget comes from other sources including fees as well as state and federal grants.
