Connexus Energy held an event this week for its members to celebrate everything under the sun.
The theme was "Bees, Butterflies and Batteries" at the solar plus battery storage project that went online last winter. According to Connexus CEO and president, Greg Ridderbusch, the idea of using solar power to charge batteries has been a study in good economics.
"When you add the saving from the energy cost difference between solar and average grid cost of power, and then on the hottest days or the cold days when energy is peaking in cost, when you add those two savings together we're saving in excess of 25 percent," says Ridderbusch.
Bees were also on display as part of National Pollinator Week. Connexus has a pollinator-friendly solar garden and partnered with Fresh Energy to have bee hives on-site. The bees help pollinate the 18 acres. A milkweed planting also took place to add to the pollinator-friendly vegetation. The project is expected to serve Connexus customers for the next 25 years.
