The city of Coon Rapids kicked off National Public Works week with an open house Saturday, May 18. The annual event at the Department of Public Works is an opportunity to educate both adults and children about a wide range of city services.
“I look at it as everyone needs to flush their toilets. Everyone needs the roads to drive on, you need the clean water to drink,” said Public Works Director Tim Himmer.
Close to 250 people at the open house learned about the work that goes on daily in the city, often in the background.
“The biggest thing for us is just, in addition to the education component is just kind of a thank you,” Himmer said.
Those who attended had an opportunity to learn about new road and park construction projects as well as new city programs.
