Tuesday's Election will result in a shift of power at the State Capitol. DFLers will take control of the Minnesota House next year and late this week it was announced that Melissa Hortman will take over as Speaker of the House.
Four seats in the Minnesota House represent a portion of Coon Rapids. In District 35B, Republican incumbent Peggy Scott retains her seat with 11,438 votes. DFLer Kathryn Eckhardt got 8,771 votes.
In District 36A, DFLer Zach Stephenson won a close race with 9,759 votes. Republican Bill Maresh got 8,878 votes.
In District 36B, incumbent DFLer Melissa Hortman easily beat Republican challenger Jermain Botsio with more than 12,514 votes. Botsio received 7,302 votes.
In District 37A, DFL incumbent Erin Koegel won with 9,816 votes. Republican challenger Anthony Wilder got 7,676 votes.
The 2019 Legislative Session is set to begin on January 8.
