Thousands Take Part in Annual Patriot Ride

Participation in the annual Minnesota Patriot Ride is the largest yet, according to a committee member.

For the 13th year, motorcyclists from near and far gathered in a display of patriotism to honor and remember the men and women who have served the United States and those who continue to serve. This year’s ride began and ended at the Anoka County Airport on June 30th.

“It’s a day we can come out and show our support for our veterans, our active duty, our police officers, EMTs,” said Minnesota Patriot Ride committee member Dianna Beardsley.

She says more than 6,000 people registered to ride this year, an increase of over 30% from last year.

“I think that that shows that people are paying attention and coming together when it matters,” said Laura Luchsinger before participating in the ride for her first time.

Beardsley lost her own son eleven years ago when he was killed while on active duty in Iraq. She says the event is more than a big motorcycle ride.

“These type of events mean so much to families like ours to see the community support to rally like this to say ‘hey we care. We remember,’” Beardsley said.

Fees collected at the Patriot Ride benefit four nonprofits: Tribute to the Troops, The Patriot Guard Riders, Backing the Blue Line and the Minnesotans’ Military Appreciation Fund.
