PGA Tour Adding Stop in Blaine Starting in 2019

The Tournament Players Club in Blaine with play host to an official PGA Tour event starting next summer.  That means this summer will be the final time the TPC hosts the senior players for the 3M Championship.

The dates for the new even, the 3M Open, have not yet been announced but we do know the tournament will call the TPC home for at least seven years.  The last time a PGA Tour event was held in Minnesota was back in 2009 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska.

Organizers say it's taken many years to make the dream of a 3M Open a reality in Minnesota and it will be three times bigger than the current senior tour event.

"The 3M Open is a wonderful opportunity for us and this community to build on all the success that we've had, to amplify our impact and to bring some of the world's very best golfers right here into our backyard," says Paul Keel, 3M Senior Vice President.

"It will be a full field event, we have a lot of great things planned with concerts and all kinds of stuff during the week we really plan on making this a community happening not just a golf tournament," says Hollis Cavner, Executive Director of Pro Links Sports.

Just like the 3M Championship, which will be played for the final time at the TPC this August, 100% of the proceeds from the 3M Open will be donated to local charities but there will be an admission charge for adults.  Also, some modifications will be made to the course at the TPC to make it more challenging for the PGA players.

The dates for the 2019 tournament are expected to be announced next month.
