Kitchen and Dining Room Makeover
Don and Connie Heikkila wanted to open up their home and better utilize its space. Their home, built in the late 1980's, was a bit dated and in need of some upgrades. After talking about remodeling for years, The Heikkila's heard about the Home for Generations II grant program, and decided it was time for a change.
Don Heikkila says, "It's something we were thinking about for a long time. The kitchen was too small, the dining room was small and we wanted to open it up, so we decided to knock the walls down."
The Heikkila's remodeled their entry way, dining room and kitchen, creating an open floor plan with more usable space.
New oak flooring, custom cabinetry and a kitchen island were added to the kitchen. Built-ins and new energy efficient windows and doors completed the remodel.
They utilized the Home for Generations II grant program to help fund their project.
Heikkila says, The program itself was great. We had no problems getting it started and working with City staff was great.
