A couple of park improvement projects are on the horizon here in Coon Rapids. On Monday night, city staff hosted an open house for the public to learn more about planned improvements at both Riverwind Park and Crooked Lake Park. Construction won't begin until 2018 but staff is seeking feedback from residents on preliminary plans for both parks."They are involved, they live by the park, they use the park, it gives them a real chance to be able to be part of it and take ownership," says Gregg Engle, parks supervisor. "It also gives a good value to the neighborhood too and gives it a value that the whole community can be proud of."Preliminary plans for Crooked Lake Park call for an expanded parking lot, improved tennis courts, a new playground and picnic shelters, basketball court, lighted sand volleyball courts and more. Preliminary plans for Riverwind Park call for a new playground and picnic shelter, new pickleball courts and trails. The future of the existing building is still being decided.
